Abducted girl rescued in Joypurhat
A day into her abduction, police last night rescued a schoolgirl and arrested the prime accused who also killed her brother during the kidnapping.
On Friday night, abductors stabbed Md Sabuj, 28, to death when he tried to resist them from kidnapping his 16-year-old sister at her Paikartoli village in the upazila Friday night.
Acting on a tip-off, police launched a raid at a house of Bhadshabazar village in Sadar upazila around 11:30pm yesterday and rescued the girl, said Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station.
They also arrested the key suspect Md Shipon from the house, the OC said.
Shipon allegedly hired professional killers and abductors from Nataipara village in Bogra Sadar upazila for the mission, the police officer said.
"They commit such crimes in exchange of money," the OC added.
According to locals and the family members, a gang of 14 to 15 criminals led by Shipon of the same upazila went to the girl’s house with a hired microbus around 11:30pm Friday.
The kidnappers, wielding sharp weapons, left the place along with the girl.
They stabbed Sabuj indiscriminately leaving him dead on the spot while he approached towards the abductors responding to the crying of her sister for help, they added.
In an overnight raid, the law enforcers arrested five persons in connection with the incident.
