A tale of two schools
Students of two primary schools in Lohagara upazila are attending their classes amid great difficulties since the institutions went into the River Modhumoti last month.
Since the river devoured Noukhola Government Primary School, students of Class V and III have been attending their classes in a hut at the courtyard of president of school managing committee's house while fist, second and fourth graders under the open sky nearby the spot.
“At least 157 students are attending their classes amid risk of accident as natural disasters like storm and heavy downpour can hit the hut having no roof anytime”, said headmaster Sayed Jillur Rahman.
Our PSC examination is knocking at the door but we can not attend our class properly due to the situation, said fifth graders Bayejid, Ria and Hannan.
“Not only the students but also my family are facing problem for the arrangement”, said Md Raja Mia, president of the school managing committee.
Meanwhile, Minoty Rani Dutt, assistant teacher at Ajampur Government Primary School, said at least 115 students are attending their classes at a house of Shiorbor cluster village in Shalnagor union after the school went into the river a month ago.
“Now we can take the classes as the village is empty but we have to leave the place when its dwellers will start to live here,” he said.
Md Rubayet Mollah, president of the school managing committee, urged to reconstruct the school immediately considering the sufferings of the students.
Upazila education officer Md Lutfer Rahman said we informed the education department about replacement of the schools.
