7.5kg gold seized at Dhaka airport
Custom officials detained a man along with 64 gold bars, weighing around 7.5 kilogrammes, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka this morning.
The detainee is Abdul Latif, 37, a resident of Satkania upazila of Chittagong.
A team of customs intercepted Latif when he was about to leave the airport with the gold stashed in three packets of Benson cigarettes around 8:30am, said Umme Nahida Akter, an assistant director of custom intelligence at the airport.
Market price of the seized gold is estimated around Tk3.75 crore, she said.
Latif, carrying passport no AA3914762, reached the airport by a flight of EK582 from Dubai, she added.
