60 pankauris rescued in Moulvibazar
Forest officials rescued 60 pankauris – cormorants -- during a drive in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar last night.
The officials have already released the pankauris at a bird sanctuary around 9:00pm, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports.
Poachers caught the birds from the bird sanctuary, Halla Pakhibari, said Shekhar Ranjan Das, Baralekha range officer of the forest department.
The poachers left the birds at a boat at kanongobazar in Hakaluki Haorpara and escaped sensing the presence of the officials during the drive, the forest official said.
Barlekha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shamim Al Imran said the process of filing a case against the poachers is underway.
