12 rescued while being trafficked to Malaysia, 1 held
Bangladesh Coast Guard last night rescued 12 people from the shoreline of Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar while they were taking preparations to sail for Malaysia illegally.
They also detained a trafficker, Shafiqul Islam, from the spot.
Acting on a tip-off, coast guard personnel of Teknaf station held the fortune-seekers in Jadimora area while they were getting ready to sail off to Malaysia around 10:45pm, a press release said.
Shafiqul brought the 12 men from different corners of the country with a promise to send them to Malaysia via sea route illegally, the press release reads.
Five of the detainees are from Brahmanbaria, three from Cox’s Bazar, two from Bogra, and the others are from Chuadanga, Bandarban and Chittagong.
They were taken to Teknaf Police Station.
