Two DMCH doctors flee courtroom
Two physicians of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital yesterday escaped from the dock of a courtroom soon after it rejected their bail in a corruption case.
The doctors, Atiar Rahman, an assistant professor, and Moshiur Rahman, a senior lecturer, had looked casual; maybe they had expected bail, said court sources.
But when the Senior Special Judge's Court of Dhaka rejected their bail petitions, the two looked around before sneaking off around 2:00pm, Shah Alam Talukdar, metropolitan additional public prosecutor, told The Daily Star.
Judge Md Jahurul Haque issued a show-cause notice upon three policemen, who were on duty at the courtroom's gate at that time, to explain how the two fled.
The court also rejected the bail petitions of four former DMCH officials and sent them to jail in the corruption case filed for misappropriating Tk 2.31 crore in drug purchase.
The four are DMCH's ex-director Bazle Qader, its ex-deputy director Foyzullah, and two ex-accounts officers, both named Nazrul Islam.
Their bail prayers were cancelled considering the depth of the charges, said court sources.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on November 16, 2011.
