Fares doubled, hygiene rules not followed at Barishal Launch Terminal

Launches have started operating from Barishal and are charging double the usual fares and are failing to follow any hygiene rules.
A total of 16 launches left Barishal Launch Terminal today for various destinations including Dhaka, Bhola and Mehendiganj, reports our Barishal correspondent. Of the launches, at least five-six left for Dhaka.
Restrictions on public transport were lifted in the country from today.
As seen by our correspondent, no social distancing was maintained by passengers on the deck of the launches. There was also no awareness campaign from the launch authorities. At least 10,000 passengers left for Dhaka today from the terminal.
Jakir Hossain, the supervisor of Sundarbans Launch said, "We have requested the passengers to board the launch wearing masks and they can use our onboard bathroom and hand wash facilities."
Hanif, a staff member of the river port leaseholder, said the number of passengers was a bit lower than usual. "Otherwise, more people would have crowded the terminal."
Saidur Rahman Rintu, owner of Sundarbans Launch said, "There were fewer passengers on board the launch today compared to regular times. Even then, we are promoting wearing of masks and washing of hands."
Barishal River Port Officer Mostafijur Rahman said, "Launch authorities have been strictly instructed to follow hygiene rules."
