Ban on inter-district transport: Dhaka-bound buses stopped from crossing Bangabandhu bridge
Over 100 Dhaka-bound passenger buses from different districts of the northern region were sent back from the western side of Bangabandhu Bridge in Sirajganj today as they were travelling in violation of the ban on inter-district public transport.
"We have halted passenger buses at the western end of Bangabandhu Bridge from this morning. No passenger bus is allowed to cross the bridge," Md Mosaddek Hossain, officer-in-charge of Banagabandhu bridge (west zone) Police Station told the Daily Star.
Highway police are stopping Dhaka-bound buses at different points of Dhaka-Sirajganj Highway and are sending them back, said the OC.
Talking to our Pabna correspondent, Md Sajahan Ali, officer-in charge of Hatikumrul Highway Police Station, said over one hundred Dhaka bound buses are halted at the Koddar mor point and the Hatikumrul point of Bangabandhu bridge west zone highway for carrying passengers defying the ban.
He also said many passengers went back while many others went to Dhaka in different ways.
Although the movement of passenger buses are halted on the Bangabandhu bridge, many microbuses and cars were seen travelling with passengers, the OC added.
