The Supreme Court today extended till December 31 stay on bail of Asif Adnan Shuvo, who was recruited as an Islamic State fighter by a UK citizen of Bangladeshi origin.

Arrested on September 24, Shuvo has been accused under Anti-terrorism Act 2009 for “conspiring to commit terrorist and militant activities”.

On November 10, the High Court granted bail for Shuvo, which was stayed by the SC after three days.

Today, the SC also asked the HC to dispose of its rule issued on the day (November 10) asking the government to explain by December 31 why Shuvo should not be granted regular bail in the case.

The Appellate Division came up with the order after hearing a government petition seeking stay on his bail.

Shuvo, 26, is son of former HC Judge Abdus Salam Mamun.
