Of Guavas and Gardens

Jhalakathi Sadar Upazila, Swarupkathi and Banaripara Upazila in Pirozpur are famous for Guavas also known as Bengal's Apples. Thousands of Guava gardens are located at these southern areas of Bangladesh. Most of the farmers rely on the cultivation of the Guavas and Hog plums for their livelihood. Most of the farmers of the areas are poor but they are very helpful and hard working. Atghor and Kuriyana Guava markets are situated at Swarupkathi and Vimruli, at Jhalokathi Upazila of Pirozpur. Among them Vimruli is the biggest guava market. The natural beauty of the Guava gardens and the picturesque net like canals surrounding them are quite striking. These southern areas contribute vastly to the beauty of Bangladesh.
