The Voices in Brushstrokes
When I visited Dilara Begum Jolly's solo exhibition titled "Amorar Akkhyan" at The Daily Star-Bengal Arts Precinct, it simply mesmerised me. Very few artists have made such vivid depictions of the struggle of our people during the liberation war using entirely innovative, new art media. This is really appreciable that the Star Weekend has given us the chance to know more about this brilliant artist by featuring her profile in Star People (published on December 18, 2015). Jolly deserves respect and recognition for her dedication to portray the lives and sacrifices of those oppressed in our country, through her brilliant and innovative artworks.

The Man Who Raised the Flag First
It was really great to know the amazing story about the birth of our national flag from the person who hoisted it for the first time. When the movement for self determination reached its peak in the late 60s, A S M Abdur Rob took the historic initiative to design and hoist our own national flag. This historic step announced fatefully that Bangladesh has separated itself from the ideals of the corrupted and oppressive West Pakistani rulers decisively. However, after the liberation the shape of the flag has been changed and the map of Bangladesh was removed from the centre of the red circle. We have achieved this flag at the cost of three million lives. It is the symbol of our sovereignty and statehood. We should also pay respect to the courageous leader who was the first man to raise the flag.

A Changemaker's Journey
The article titled 'A Changemaker's Journey' published on December 18, 2015 is an inspiration for the entire traffic police division. The Senior ASP of traffic police division of Gazipur , Shakhawat Hossain, is an amazingly tech-savvy police officer who uses different devices for the 24/7 traffic monitoring through his smartphone. Thanks to his facebook page, he gets direct and immediate feedback from people. On top of that, his honesty and sincerity can easily be understood when we see that he has given his personal phone number to the people to keep in touch with them. This article is like an oasis to us as we always hear about the dishonesty of traffic polices across the country, especially in Dhaka. As I am also from Gazipur district, it is a great news for me that there is an honest and helpful police officer observing his duty with due responsibility and obligation. Thank you Star Weekend for unearthing this man before us, thereby, giving a subliminal message to the entire police community, so they carry out their entrusted duty with integrity.
