Rise in number of Covid-19 patients with the Indian variant
The Indian variant of coronavirus has been detected in 40 out of 50 samples in genome sequencing done by IEDCR and IDESHI. On the other hand, Covid-19 detection rate in border districts of Bangladesh is alarmingly on the rise. Are the authorities doing enough to stop the transmission of this variant from entering the heartland?
In the face of the growing number of patients in hospitals and confirmation of community transmission of the variant, the bordering districts are now imposing movement and other restrictions under local authorities. But, for the locals who have not complied with the national "strict lockdown", how effective will these local directives be?
