Women bag silver as well
Bangladesh's female shooters followed the footsteps of their male compatriots in the 9th Asian Airgun Championship when the women's youth team bagged a silver medal in the 10m air rifle event in Tehran, Iran yesterday.
The Bangladesh team, comprising Syeda Atkia Hasan Disha, Mahfuza Jannat Jui and Sharmin Akter, collectively scored 1227.5 points to ensure the silver medal, a silverware Bangladesh men's junior team won on the previous day.
Though the men's junior team provided a stiff challenge to eventual gold medal winners Iran, the women's youth team gave hardly any trouble to the Chinese team who won the gold medal with a collective score of 1244 points.
Atkia and Mahfuza played the key role in Bangladesh's performance as they scored 413.3 and 409.7 points respectively, thereby earning places in the eight-shooter final round of individual 10m air rifle event.
Mahfuza was the second shooter to be eliminated from the final round with a score of 99 points while Atkia had to be content with a fourth-place finish with a score of 162.9 points. All the three medals went to Chinese shooters.
