Bashundhara Kings centre-back Tapu Barman has been ruled out for the next six weeks after picking up a knee injury against Bangladesh Police FC in the ongoing Independence Cup at Birshreshtha Shaheed Mostafa Kamal Stadium on Saturday.

Kings' physiotherapist, Abu Sufian Sarkar, advised the national player and captain to rest for four to six week after consulting Tapu's issue with Indian doctor Nando Kumar, who had operated ACL surgery on Tapu's knee three years before.

"I have gone through the MRI test and the report was sent to Nando Kumar on Sunday, who let our team doctor know that everything is alright, apart from the fact that I received a hit on bone and was asked to rest for four to six weeks," Tapu told The Daily Star this morning.

Thus, Tapu is set to miss Kings' remaining matches of the Independence Cup and some matches of the upcoming Federation Cup as well, which is scheduled to get underway on December 23 at the same venue.

On Saturday, Tapu injured himself in the 68th minute while attempting to jump high to avoid a sliding tackle from onrushing Police forward Al Amin and after which, Tapu landed awkwardly outside the touchline.

The defender blamed his injury on the subpar quality of turf, which he termed as 'unplayable'.

"It happened due to the ground, which is not in playable conditions. When I jumped high to escape the chase from behind, my left leg got stuck on the artificial turf and I had to balance on the knee instead of ankle," informed Tapu.
