Chelsea will donate a portion of their Club World Cup winnings to the family of late Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who both tragically died in a car accident last month, The Athletic reported on Thursday.

The Blues lifted FIFA's newly-expanded Club World Cup in July, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. The victory earned the club an estimated $114.6 million (£84.4 million).

From those earnings, Chelsea set aside $15.5 million (£11.4 million) as player bonuses for the squad involved in the tournament. In an agreement reached between the club and its players, an equal payment will also be made from that fund to the family of Jota and Silva.

Each player's share amounts to over $500,000 before currency conversion from US dollars to pounds, along with deductions for taxes, social security, and other employer costs.

Jota, 27, and Silva, 29, who played for Portuguese second-tier side Penafiel, died on July 3 in a collision in Spain's Zamora province -- just 10 days before Chelsea's final triumph.

Liverpool have since announced a series of tributes to honour Jota, who scored 65 goals in 182 matches for the club after joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020.

A permanent memorial sculpture will be installed at Anfield, alongside a 'Forever 20' emblem that Liverpool players will wear on shirts and jackets throughout the 2025-26 season. The club's official charity, the LFC Foundation, will also launch a grassroots football programme in Jota's name.

Liverpool's home game against Bournemouth on Friday will feature a special fan mosaic and a minute's silence. The club retired Jota's No. 20 shirt across all age levels last month.
