Eva unbeaten champion
Women's FIDE Master Nazrana Khan Eva became the undefeated champion of Saif Global Sports 36th National Women's Chess Championship after drawing her 11th and final round board against Aahelee Sarker at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall room yesterday.
Nazrana, who has been participating regularly in the national championship since 1996, won only her second national championship title, with 9.5 points, after having won her maiden title back in 2000.
“It's not that I'm inconsistent, you have seen that I've given up hopes despite going so close to the title before because sometimes you need luck, which did not favour me. To be honest, I am in good form and this is an outcome of consistency even though initially I didn't expect to win the championship,” said Nazrana, who was awarded Tk 25,000 in cash as a title prize.
WFM Sharmin Sultana retained her runner-up spot with nine points while 18-time national champion WIM Rani Hamid finishing third with 8.5 points. Aahelee, a student of BUET, took fourth position with seven points.
