Windies captain both 'nervous and excited' regarding Bangladesh ODIs
Jason Mohammad, who came back to the Windies side after last playing for the Caribbean outfit back in 2018, said he was both nervous and excited about the challenge of facing the Tigers at home.
West Indies's biggest headache in the past has been dealing with Bangladesh's spin threat. Asked about how they will deal with Shakib, Jason said that they had a particular mindset regarding facing Shakib.
"We just have to stay positive against him. If there are balls we can score from, we have to do that. When there are good deliveries we have to defend," he said.
The likes of Mehedi Hasan, Mahedi Hasan or all-rounders Mahmudullah Riyad and Afif Hossain too can make an impact during the ODI series. For the rest of the spinners, Windies captain was hopeful that their preparation for the game will pay off.
"We have a lot of positives in the couple of practice sessions our batters spent some time during the practice game. Obviously spin plays a big role here in Bangladesh and it's going to be a different challenge and we are up to take the challenge," he said.
"[In the past] the average score was 260-270 and if we bat first, we will be looking to post something around that score and if we bat second, we would like to restrict them to a low total. But we have to bat well whatever we are up against whether it's the pacers or the spinners. I must say there is a little bit of both (nervousness and excitement). Just looking forward to enjoying the challenge as a captain," he concluded.
Bangladesh take on West Indies in the first ODI tomorrow at Dhaka. The match will get underway at 11:30 am Bangladesh Time.
