Will not say it was outstanding as I expect more from Nayeem: Mominul

Bangladesh's young off-spinner Nayeem Hasan returned his career best Test figures of nine for 152 during the Tigers' innings and 106-run victory in the lone Test against Zimbabwe, which ended on the fourth day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur today. 

Bangladesh have seen a number of players burst on to the scene with incredible performances before they slowly fade away and finally fall by the wayside. Mominul Haque does not want Nayeem to follow that path as the Bangladesh Test skipper thought that the 19-year-old spinner has a long way to go. Mominul also sought the media personnel's help to keep Nayeem on track and not derail his focus in anyway.  

"Nayeem just started his career so I do not want to say a lot about it [Nayeem's performance]. And I also request all of you. If you keep my request then it will be good for me and also Bangladesh cricket. See, he just started his career and still has a long way to go. And the way he bowled was really good but I expect that he will do even better. But I do not want to say that it was outstanding or anything like that," said Mominul at the post-match press conference in Mirpur today. 

Nayeem, who just played five Tests, also had become the youngest player ever to bag a fifer on Test debut when his expoits helped Bangladesh beat West Indies by 64 runs in Chattogram in 2018. And according to Mominul, while Nayeem had an impressive start to his Test career, the off-spinner will still need to improve a lot. 

"He has still a lot to learn. He has a lot to improve and he will as the time passes. In international cricket nothing can be gauged so early in career so I think he will have to improve more," concluded Mominul.
