Mahedi set to face sanction after disciplinary hearing

Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) disciplinary committee summoned all-rounder Mahedi Hasan for a hearing over his criticism of the team management during last month's T20I series against Australia. The all-rounder submitted his statement to the committee and is set to be sanctioned for breaching his contract.

Mahedi had expressed his frustration over not getting regular opportunities despite being a T20 specialist.

"Regret is often there. As a cricketer, I only play the T20 format, but even then, I am not a regular there. More often than not, I fall under the requirements of matchup or combination. It is disappointing for me," Mahedi was quoted as saying in media reports.

The all-rounder sat with the disciplinary committee on Wednesday.

"His sanction is yet to be decided since certain matters need to be cross-checked. The committee will also review whether the player has committed a similar offence before arriving at a decision," a BCB source said.

BCB sources also confirmed that Mahedi admitted his mistake during the hearing.

"There was a clear breach of contract and he was verbally cautioned. The severity of the breach will be determined and, in light of the fact that he has admitted his mistake, an appropriate sanction will be imposed. Whether that involves a fine or a deduction from his match fee will be decided accordingly," BCB director Sirajuddin Mohammad Alamgir said.
