142kg sulphur powder seized

The members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) of Joypurhat 3 Battalion seized around 142kg sulphur powder from Hili border under Hakimpur upazila yesterday. The BGB members seized the 'ingredient for making gun powder and bombs', from the railway station in the morning. However, nobody was arrested as it was found in an abandoned condition. BGB officials said, the criminals smuggled the powder from across the border.
16 injured in Ctg clash

At least 16 people including three women were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Banshkhali upazila yesterday. Among the injured, seven were bullet-hit and they were identified as Nur Hossain, 40, Md Hossain, 35, Sahab Uddin, 28, Jonu Miah, 65, Abu Bakar, 42, Jahanara Begum, 35, and Samuda Khatun, 35, said Abu Siddique, chairman of Khankhanabad union parishad in the upazila. Fourteen of the injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) at CMCH police camp. People of Soleman Fakir and Rashid Ahmed of Dongra Polanpara in the upazila locked in a fierce clash with sharp weapons and firearms over harvesting paddy from a disputed land at around 9:00am yesterday, said locals
UP chairman held in graft case

Police arrested a union perished (UP) chairman from Traffic Point area of Sunamganj district town in connection with a graft case on Saturday. The arrestee was Delwar Hossain, chairman of Mollapara union parishad in Sadar upazila. Mokbul Hossain, officer in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station, said Delwar was arrested in a graft case filed by the local Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) office in 2013. A team of police raided the area and arrested him at about 7:30pm, he said.
Two Jamaat activists arrested

Police arrested two Jamaat activists in separate drives in the district town yesterday morning. The arrestees were identified as, Firoz Kabir, 45, son of Altaf Hossain of Charmohonpur area and Delwar Hossain alias Sabuj, 35, son of Boyenuddin of Hujrapur area. Acting on a tip off, police raided the houses of Firoz and Delwar in the early hours and arrested them, said Jasimuddin, officer in-charge (OC) of Sadar Model Police Station. Firoz is accused in eleven cases while Delwar in five cases, filed by police with the PS, he said.
