Everybody Loves Raymond (1996 - 2005)
Everybody Loves Raymond is a television sitcom from America that ran on CBS from September 13, 1996 to May 16, 2005. The show has a total of 9 seasons till 2005, with episodes ranging from 16-26 per season. Everybody Loves Raymond has a total of 210 episodes.
The show is about the life of Raymond Barone, a sports columnist for Newsday, a daily newspaper, who lives in Long Island along with his family. The core humour of this sitcom derives from Raymond's lack of seriousness, cracking jokes wherever he deems fit regardless of how problematic the situation is. He enjoys avoiding responsibility which ultimately makes everything fall on the shoulders of his wife Debra. Raymond and Debra have three children: their daughter Ally and twin sons Michael and Geoffrey. Another core humour of the sitcom is Debra's understandable complaints about Raymond's meddling family. Debra is particularly annoyed by Raymond's mother Marie, a rude, overprotective and manipulative woman who uses her passive-aggressive nature to pass judgement on Debra and pampers Ray, openly favouring him over her other son Robert.
What makes this show incredibly funny is Raymond bad-luck in winding up in the middle of family arguments making it impossible for him to take any decisive stand, mainly since it might invoke Marie's disapproval. Ray's biggest rival is his elder brother Robert who is an insecure, yet a tender giant jealous of his younger brother's status as the favourite son in the house and the comparative success that his younger sibling has over him professionally. The brothers are often shown to fight like oversized kids, where they focus most of their energy on picking each other. However, every now and then, the brothers are seen to love one another.
The series is a great choice for binge-watching, for people who enjoy classic sitcom-humour.
