FROM NO ONE TO SOMEONE

The career market can often seem much harsher than it really is. You spent most of your time studying, pushing yourself to get a higher GPA, in hopes that it would help to secure your dream job. However, the CGPA is not always the only thing that matters. You only realise this after your best friend who spent the whole year partying, nailed the interview and got the job you could not. The worst part is his grades are way worse than yours. Losing your faith in God, you join any company willing to take you. Therefore, you end up with a job you dislike, low self-esteem, and feeling like a “nobody.”

However, it does not always have to end like this. Few tips may help you to build your confidence, and help you to understand how the career market really works. You may finally get the chance to show the world your true potential.

“No One To Someone” was a corporate grooming session, that took place at Orchard Suites, on the May 8, 2015. The motivational speaker for the event was Solaiman Sukhon, the Head of Marketing of Elite Technologies. A man who has accomplished a lot and is considered as one of the best “corporate culture guru,” Sukhon was the ideal speaker for an event like this.

The 8 hour event was quite successful. Most of the people who attended the event were adults, but there were a few young faces too. The speaker built better connection with the audience by calling them on the stage, asking questions or just letting them share their thoughts on a few topics. He kept the audience entertained with his sense of humour. Needless to say, the audience loved him.

Although the event was referred to as a corporate grooming session, it would be wrong to say that grooming and etiquettes was the only topics. The seminar began with the topic “To join or not to join”, where the speaker talked about things to consider before choosing a career, and how to know if a job is right for you. “Interpersonal Roles” and “Corporate Grooming and Etiquettes” were discussed soon after. The speaker explained these topics using personal experiences, which helped the audience to get a better grab of the topic. The topics not only explained how to socialise properly, but it also discussed facts like how to be more presentable. The discussion later moved to “Positive thinking”, telling the audience how to be more confident.

After a break, the speaker started discussing about “EQ vs IQ”. The room was filled with smiles when the speaker told his story about how he managed to secure such a great job, even though he didn’t have good grades. A detailed lecture was given on “Interview Skills”, which the audience listened to with their full attention.

Apart from all this, the lecturer also discussed what kind of image should be maintained when using social media, “Corporate Dos and Don’ts”, and whether someone should resign from their job or not.

The whole audience became a fan of the speaker. Most of them rushed to the speakers to get their autographs or a picture when the seminar ended. While most people were sceptical before the programme started, they left the venue more confident than ever, ready to take on the world.
