Colourful 2D Racing

Platform: iOS, Android

Let me just first mention that I have a strong dislike for repetitive games where your only goal is to beat your own high score. However, it's with games like "Data Wing" that I make an exception. Simplistic gameplay with good, stylish graphics? Check. Easy to get into, fun and mildly addictive? Check. And, most importantly, free? Check.

Here's what sets the game out a bit more: it's story driven. You're a "data wing," something that carries information from point A to point B in the phone of a User, directed by the system AI known as Mother, whose ultimate goal is to become a fully functional human on its Waking Day, as promised by its manufacturer.

For a free game with zero ads, the amount of detail is incredibly admirable. Starting off simple, it ramps up the difficulty level in ways you don't expect, offering various modes of gameplay, including skirmishes, adventuring, puzzles, time-based challenges, etc. Even the creative ways that the stages are structured deserves a nod. Oh, AND it's got a good soundtrack. All the while, the surprisingly interesting story continues to unfold, and I'd say this is my favourite feature but the story isn't spoon-fed to you: go out there and find it. Heck, it's so detailed that there's actually character development within such a short time frame.

With all its features and your inevitably daily boredom, Data Wing is something you definitely shouldn't miss out on.
