‘We want our discounts’
With slogans like "We want our half-priced bikes" and "Keep the discounts coming", thousands of citizens from a specific walk of life held a demonstration at the capital's Chahbagh intersection.
Their demands? Keep the country's e-con, ahem, e-commerce businesses alive.
"I ordered a fridge two years ago," said Abul Kuddus, who previously participated in demonstrations to halt such businesses. "I received the order yesterday. I now know that the sites will do great things for the country."
"I want my damn bike!" Sakib, a young protester, cried out. "I'm the laughing stock among my boys, because all of them have bikes, but I couldn't afford one.
"Finally, when I came across a bike that was 60 percent off, I thought my life was going to change for the better five years from now. But now, I've lost all hope. I'll never be able to ride with my bros to Mawa. I'll remain bike-less forever."
Earlier, Bruhsell Bromad, founder of the country's biggest e-commerce site, was arrested for questionable business practices. But before getting detained, he went live on Facebook with his teary puppy-dog eyes and gaming chair, asking customers to give him a few months' time to turn everything around.
"Bruhsell has started a revolution, and we are his soldiers," said one demonstrator. "He will lead us to a paradise of discounts. We must put our faith in him, or we are doomed."
"Look, you just don't understand the business. I swear, the people of this country can never appreciate good things," said Aslam, one of the protesters. "It's simple, but you need a high IQ to understand the process. Basically, you give them your money and wait for like years, and then, you get your product at a huge discount. It's just like a bank!"
When asked about all the people who lost their money, he said, "If you wanna win big, you have to take risks. We are the risk-takers, the day-dreamers, the daredevils. We don't talk about those losers."
