Road accidents kill 5, injure 20

Five people were killed and 20 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Sylhet and Manikganj yesterday.
Staff correspondent reports: A woman was killed when a Farmgate-bound local bus hit her from behind while she was crossing the Mirpur Road after completing her morning walk before Gono Bhaban in the city yesterday.
The deceased was Kashrif Jahan Chowdhury, 53, wife of Golam Khaleque Chowdhury, a roads and highways department official. She lived at Sir Syed Road in Mohammadpur.
Locals rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police said they could not seize the bus or arrest the driver.
Meanwhile, two unidentified persons, including a septuagenarian woman, were killed in separate road accidents in Tejgaon Shilpanchal and Darussalam area in the city yesterday.
Police said a man aged about 42 was crushed under the wheels of an unknown vehicle when he was crossing the road at Mohakhali Bus Terminal around 1:00am.
The septuagenarian woman succumbed to her injuries at a city hospital around 3:00 am after she was injured in a road accident while she crossing Mirpur Mazar Road around 4:00pm on Thursday, police added.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet adds: A driver and a helper of a truck were killed in a head-on collision between two trucks on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Notunbazar of Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj yesterday.
The deceased are driver Mostafa Miah, 35, of village Sidop of Shibganj upazila and helper Ujjal Miah, 25, of Madhyapara under Bogra district.
Our Manikganj correspondent says: At least 20 people were injured when a Dhaka-bound bus of Padma Line turned upside down after its driver lost his control over the steering while the driver was quarrelling with his staff on the Dhaka-Aricha highway at Bhatbaur of Sadar upazila yesterday.
Of the injured, 12 passengers were admitted to Manikganj Sadar Hospital.
Police seized the bus but its driver and staff managed to flee.
