Universal Human Rights Day

To mark Universal Human Rights Day 2010 as well as to generate awareness against the decline of moral values in society, a music festival will take place today at the Mall Chattar of Dhaka University. Non-Government Organisation Manusher Jonno Foundation in association with UKaid and Royal Norwegian Embassy in Bangladesh will organise the programme.
Leading singers of the country as Sabina Yasmin, Fahmida Nabi, Bappa Majumder, Partho Barua, Shantanu Biswas and Krishnokoli will render songs at the programme.
The programme will also feature an award-giving ceremony to 13 individuals. The awards are a recognition of the individuals' contribution in generating awareness on human rights at the grassroots level.
Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will be present as chief guest. Syed Manjur Elahi, chairman, Governing Board, Manusher Jonno Foundation will preside over the programme. Shaheen Anam, executive director, Manusher Jonno Foundation will deliver the inaugural speech.
Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Vice Chancellor, Dhaka University; Irene Khan, former secretary general, Amnesty International and Daniel Davis, Senior Programme Manager, HD and Governance Adviser, DFID will be present as special guests.
The guests will hand over awards to the recipients. The programme is open to all and will begin at 3pm.
