20,000 metres current net seized, 10 held

Chandpur district administration and members of Coast Guard seized 20,000 metres current net and detained 10 fishermen a drive in the river Meghna at Char Bhairab at Haimchar early yesterday.
The drive jointly led by Magistrate of Chandpur Shamimul Haque Pavel and Commander of Coast Guard Chandpur station Lieutenant Khwaza Masum started at 1:00am and continued till 8:00am.
The detainees were identified as Maran Ali, Sabuj, Abdur Sattar Hossain, Hajrat Ali, Rafiqul Islam, Md Rubel, Maran Ali Gazi, Md Siraj Miah, Rubel and Yasin Ali. They all hail from South Jaliarchar at Laxmipur.
Meanwhile, Haimchar Upazila Nagarik Forum on Thursday held a discussion at Haimchar Upazila Parishad auditorium to create awareness against fishing of jatka.
