Mother dies as 5 of a family burnt in Keraniganj fire
A fire victim, Rahima Begum, 50, died this evening after five members of a family suffered burn injuries when a fire broke out at their house at Par Gandaria in Keraniganj, on the outskirts of the capital, early today.
Victim, Rahima succumbed to her injuries around 8:00pm at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said the hospital sources.
The other injured -- Rahima's daughters Salma, 30, and Sonia, 14, and sons Rocky, 27, and Akash, 12, -- were whisked off to DMCH burn unit. Condition of Rahima was critical as she suffered 90 percent burnt injuries, sources at the burn unit said.
The other members however sustained 17 to 35 percent burn injuries.
The fire originated at the house from a mosquito coal around 3:30am, said Khalequzzaman Khan, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters.
On information, two firefighting units from Postogola unit reached to the spot after locals doused the flame and rescued the victims.
