Protesting what they termed "a conspiracy" against Fazlur Rahman, and forming of a mob in front of his house, protest marches and rallies were held in the BNP leader's home district Kishoreganj.

Earlier today, BNP suspended its chairperson's adviser, Fazlur Rahman, from all party posts, including his primary membership, for three months.

Thousands gathered for a march initially at the Itna Sadar market, followed by a rally beside the upazila parishad this afternoon.

Among others, President of Itna upazila BNP SM Kamal Hossain, Secretary General Swapan Thakur, and Organisational Secretary Tariqul Islam spoke on the occasion.

Several hundred people held a protest march in Austagram upazila in the afternoon.

Later, there was a rally at Jamtoli intersection in the town market. Among others, Zakir Hossain Safi, vice president of BNP's Austagram upazila unit; SM Shahin, organisational secretary; Anwar Hossain, convener of Jubo Dal; Ali Rahman Khan, member secretary; former president of Upazila Chhatra Dal SM Javed; Convener Titumir Hossain Sohel; and Member Secretary Al Mahmood Mostak, spoke at the event, among others.

Speakers at the rally said Fazlur Rahman is a brave freedom fighter and "a helmsman of BNP during its difficult times."

An anti-Liberation War group has been conspiring against him, spreading propaganda, they added.

No one has the power to remove Fazlur Rahman from politics, the local leaders and activists said.

They warned that if the government does not take action in this regard, if necessary, they will march towards Dhaka with the people of Itna-Mithamoin-Austagram.
