The European Union has called on all parties in Bangladesh to engage in peaceful and constructive dialogue to embed key governance and human rights reforms ahead of the parliamentary elections.

"Bangladesh can count on the EU's support as it moves ahead with its democratic process," said the EU Embassy in Bangladesh in a statement marking the first anniversary of July uprising.

The embassy said one year ago, Bangladeshis from all walks of life took to the streets to stand up for their rights and demand a more just and democratic future.

"Today we honour their courage and resilience, remember those who lost their lives, and reaffirm our support for the survivors still recovering from their injuries," it said.

The UK, France, Canada, Australia, Italy, and Germany also issued statements congratulating the people of Bangladesh on the day and honoured the memory of those who lost their lives.

"Canada joins the people of Bangladesh in marking this important day to recognise their courage and democratic aspirations. We stand in solidarity with all those working towards a just, peaceful, and inclusive future," said the Canadian High Commission in Bangladesh.

The UK High Commission in X said they honour the memory of those who lost their lives and remember those who were injured, while extending support to the interim government and the people of Bangladesh as they chart the pathway to a democratic, inclusive, and prosperous future.

The Italian embassy congratulated Bangladesh and its people for carrying forward a transition process towards a more democratic and prosperous country underpinned by inclusivity and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

"Italy honours the memory of those who lost their lives and renews its support for the aspirations to build a more cohesive and equitable society for all citizens."

The German embassy said it stands with the people of Bangladesh and remains committed to supporting the aspirations of the Bangladeshi people for a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic future that ensures the rule of law, justice, and dignity for all.

On its Facebook page, the Australian High Commission said it acknowledges the significance of this day for the people of Bangladesh and remembers those who died or were injured during last year's civil unrest.

"We support Bangladesh as it moves towards free, fair, and participatory elections," it said.

The French embassy in Dhaka said August 5 opened a new chapter in the history of Bangladesh, and France stands with the people of Bangladesh in their pursuit of a peaceful, inclusive, and democratic future.
