Meghna Bank MD resigns citing personal reasons

Kazi Ahsan Khalil, managing director and CEO of Meghna Bank PLC, submitted his resignation today, citing personal reasons.
In a letter addressed to the chairman of the bank, Khalil stated that he will step down from his role effective from the close of business on October 27 this year.
"I am not in a position to continue service with Meghna Bank PLC," he wrote in the letter dated July 27, 2025. "Therefore, I hereby resign from the position of Managing Director & CEO of the bank."
The resignation letter has been received and acknowledged by the central bank, a Bangladesh Bank official said.
In March this year, the central bank dissolved the previous board of Meghna Bank and restructured it.
Since its establishment in 2013, HN Ashequr Rahman, a central leader of the Awami League, had been serving Meghna Bank as chairman.
The bank's board of directors included former land minister Saifuzzaman Chowdhury's family members and their affiliates. The majority of the bank's shares were held by them.
After the restructuring of the board, Uzma Chowdhury became the chairman of the bank.
Contacted, Kazi Ahsan Khalil told The Daily Star: "I resigned due to a very personal issue. I felt that I should no longer continue in this job, although my tenure was supposed to last until July 10 next year."
"While I was still in the position, the bank started looking for a new MD. They wanted to send me on leave even though I was the sitting MD and had one more year left in my term. And they did this without any reason."
"But I was prepared for it, because there is no allegation of corruption or wrongdoing against me," he said, adding: "I am stepping down for the sake of my own dignity and my family's honour."
