Eid holiday: Govt issues executive order declaring April 3 public holiday

Eid holidays in Bangladesh 2025

The government has issued an executive order declaring April 3, a public holiday, in observance of Eid-ul-Fitr, according to a notification issued today by the Ministry of Public Administration.

The executive order mandates the closure of all government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and private offices on that day.

However, workers and vehicles involved with essential services, including electricity, water, gas, fire services, ports, telecommunications, internet, and postal, will be out of the purview of the holiday, the notification said.

Hospitals and emergency medical services will also be exempt from the holiday, ensuring uninterrupted public health services.

The notification specified that doctors, medical personnel, and those involved in the transportation of medical supplies and equipment must continue their duties.

Offices handling emergency operations are similarly excluded from the holiday.

Bangladesh Bank will issue separate directives on banking services, while the Supreme Court will provide instructions regarding the court activities for that day.

The decision, finalised at an advisory council meeting yesterday, effectively extends the official Eid holidays from March 28 to April 3.

March 28 is a public holiday for Shab-e-Qadr, while March 26 marks Independence Day, leaving March 27 as the only working day before the Eid break.

Offices will resume operations on April 6, following the weekly holidays on April 4 and 5.
