Govt must take measures to ban AL: Hasnat

The interim government must take immediate measures to ban Awami League and hold trials over the mass killings during the July uprising, Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser (Southern Region) of National Citizen Party, has said.
"Awami League was ousted following the July mass uprising. There is no example in the world that any political party that was ousted by an uprising, was later given an opportunity to participate in the election," he said.
Hasnat Abdullah was speaking at a rally held at the capital's Shahbagh organised by the NCP today.
Pointing fingers at security forces, Hasnat Abdullah said, "Only politicians will control the politics in the post-July uprising of Bangladesh."
"We want to clearly say that your work is in the cantonment. You stay in the cantonment. We respect and acknowledge your contribution to protecting the sovereignty of the country," he said.
Addressing the function, NCP's Joint Convener Mahin Sarker demanded a proper investigation into the killings during the July uprising and a ban on AL.
Several other top leaders of NCP demanded the freezing of bank accounts of AL leaders and their associates.
