Three youths get life term for rape

A Dhaka tribunal yesterday sentenced three youths to life-term rigorous imprisonment in a case filed over the gang-rape of a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl in Dhaka's Khilkhet area in April last year.

The convicts are Md Dwin Islam, Md Yasin alias Mostakin and Md Saikot Mia alias Manu.

Judge Begum Mafroza Parvin of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 of Dhaka handed down the sentence in presence of the convicts at the courtroom.

Another accused, who is a juvenile, was also jailed for 10 years in the same case.The tribunal sent all the four convicts to jail with conviction warrants.

The tribunal framed charges against all the four accused on March 1.

Advocate Fahmida Akhter Rinky, a lawyer of One-stop Crisis Centre, conducted the case on behalf of the victim.
