Youth arrested for posting nudes of ex-wife on social media

A youth has been arrested for cybercrime over allegedly spreading obscene photos and videos on social media of his ex-wife in Manikganj Sadar upazila.

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested Akash Mahmud (24), of Sadar upazila last evening (April 11, 2022), Rab-4 Company Commander Arif Hossain confirmed to our Manikganj correspondent today.

According to Rab, the youth had met the victim, a Bangladeshi expatriate in Jordan, via Facebook eight years ago. The victim got married to Akash on March 19 last year via mobile phone during the pandemic.

Since their marriage, when the victim shared personal photos and videos over messaging platform Imo, Akash had kept records of those.

Later, Akash threatened to circulate them on social media demanding money, and after receiving a huge sum of money, he divorced her.

A case was filed with Manikganj Sadar Police Station in this connection.
