A pregnant woman in Bogura, who was diagnosed with Covid-19, died today from eclampsia after giving birth to a baby boy at Bogura's 250-bed Mohammad Ali Hospital in the morning.

Eclampsia is the onset of seizures, a disorder in which there is high blood pressure and either large amounts of protein in the urine or other organ dysfunction.

The deceased was Sanzida Begum (23) from Atmul villager under Bogura's Dupchanchia upazila. Her husband is a rickshaw puller, said Sanzida's sister Fatema.

Family members admitted Sanzida to hospital on Saturday night in unconscious state after she had seizures. Doctors later diagnosed her with Covid-19 and transferred her to the dedicated Covid unit.

Sanzida gave birth to a baby boy around 4:00am before breathing her last around 9:00am today, said the hospital authorities.

"The patient tested positive for Covid-19 and later gave birth to a baby boy normally at the Covid-19 unit but she died from eclampsia," said ATM Nuruzzaman Sonchoy, superintendent of the hospital.
