'Kaptai Dam is safe'

The officials of the Geological Survey Department yesterday claimed that the Kaptai Dam is completely safe and unlikely to be affected by earthquake measuring up to 6 on the Richter scale.

In a press briefing here, Director of Geological Department Mir Fazlul Huq dismissed the press reports that Kaptai Dam might be affected by earthquake.

The dam was built in 1960 for producing hydro-electricity.
