BIBIANA
Since its inception in November 2001, Bibiana has established itself among the top local ethnic fashion boutiques. Founded by fashion designer and Charukola alumnus Lipi Khandaker, Bibiana currently boasts nine outlets in Bangladesh (eight in Dhaka, one in Chittagong) and is working with almost 15,000 artisans.
Bibiana's design process usually starts from the hand of the weaver, who receives an order of the colour and texture of the fabric six to eight months prior to the launch of the respective collection. After the weaving is complete, the fabric is accessorised with designs, embellishments, etc. Not only is the quality of the final product important in Bibiana, but also the fair price of the raw materials to the producers and artisans is given due consideration.
The moment you enter a Bibiana showroom, you will be struck by a plethora of colours. The clothes at Bibiana are all in bright shades of yellow, orange, red, purple, green and blue. Bibiana has maintained a very traditional touch on all their collections, yet at the same time being very tasteful and elegant. The ethnic Bengali flavour that has become lost from fashion lately is in abundance at Bibiana.
The shalwar kameez sets at Bibiana feauture traditional embroidery and applique work, as well as block prints in mostly cotton. The kameezes are versatile enough to be worn on both formal and informal occasions. The price range for shalwar kameez sets is Tk.1500-3500. There are also some unstitched three-piece shalwar kameez sets available for around Tk.1200-1300.

To complement your kurta, you can also make a selection from the scarves and bottoms on display. There are dhoti pajamas, churidars, normal shalwars in different colours as well as quirky prints.
Finish off your outfit with something from the jewellery collection, where you will find earrings, necklaces, bangles and hairpins made of wood, beads, threads and brass. Necklaces range from Tk.50-820, earrings from Tk.30-400 and bracelets Tk.50-400.
For the men, Bibiana offers ethnic shirts with block prints, both full and half sleeve, as well as panjabis, which have block print, screen print, applique and hints of embroidery. Men's shirts are in sober colours that are preferred by most customers, while the panjabis are more adventurous and can be found in bright colours and prints. Prices of shirts Tk.500-1000 and panjabis up to Tk.1500.
Bibiana has a little something for the children as well. Children's shirts, kurtas, panjabis and dresses van be found for the age range of 2-11 years.
In addition, you can find saris, shalwar kameez sets, panjabis and kurtas in homage of Independence Day in all Bibiana outlets. This time around, Bibiana has decided to do something different by moving away from the usual red and green colour combination. They have focused more on the colour white, keeping in mind of the changing season and the onslaught of heat. The mandatory red and green have instead been used in the details of the outfits, for example, on the sleeves and borders. In addition, famous lyrics from patriotic songs have been screen printed onto fabrics used.
Bibiana promises to deliver quality and tasteful products without the hefty price tag. Pay a visit to Bibiana to get back the flavour of the traditional Bengali motifs and designs that we are slowly losing every day.
