Moghbazar explosion: Police to form another committee involving bomb disposal unit, says IGP
Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed today said they would form a probe committee to investigate yesterday's explosion in Dhaka's Moghbazar that killed at least six persons and injured 50.
"Several similar incidents have occurred in different areas recently, including at a mosque in Narayanganj and in Shanir Akhra area. We will form a probe committee involving officials from the bomb disposal unit and will work with the fire service to try to find out the reason behind such incidents," Benazir told reporters after visiting the site.
"We do not want recurrence of such incidents," he said.
Replying to a query whether it is an act of sabotage, the IGP said they have to wait a day or two until experts give an opinion.
He, however, said "A tremendous shockwave was created here… the explosion caused destruction in a single direction. In case of any blast caused by bomb or explosive, it normally causes destruction in at least three to four directions. Besides, police did not yet find anything except shattered glasses from the spot. Besides, there is smell of methane gas inside."
Moghbazar Flyover will be open for traffic upon taking opinion from the experts, he added.
The IGP urged all to stay home and wear masks in case of going outside for emergencies.
"We do not want to see similar incidents in the country even after knowing the experience of our neighbouring country," he said, urging all to help police on the streets.
