PBI asked to probe case filed over torture of Kishore in custody

A Dhaka court today asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to probe the case filed over torture of cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore in police custody.

Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka came up with the order after Kishore filed the case on March 10 in connection with the torture.

The court ordered PBI to conduct the investigation with a superintendent of police (SP) ranked PBI officer and asked to submit the probe report by April 15.

The court, at the same time, asked to form a three-member medical board making a doctor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital's ENT department as its head while two other doctors of DMCH -- one from Orthopaedics and another from medicine department -- will be members of the medical board.

The doctor of ENT department will conduct tests on Kishore's ears, nose and throat while the doctor of orthopaedics department will examine the wound on his leg. The other doctor of medicine department will conduct tests on the scars on his back and other parts of his body.

The medical board was ordered to examine the torture that Kishore faced in police custody in between May 2, 2020 and May 5, 2020 within 24 working hours and to submit its findings to the PBI officer who would investigate the case.
