Tk 438cr project taken to bring fallow land under cultivation: agriculture minister

The government has taken a Tk 438 crore project to bring fallow lands under cultivation across the country, Agriculture Minister Muhammad Abdur Razzaque said today.
The minister spoke at the annual general meeting of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Krishibid Samiti at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka.
The project has been taken following the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to bring every inch of land under cultivation in order to cope with the food crisis during the coronavirus pandemic, Razzaque said.
"Under this project, family nutrition garden will be established in the yard of houses and fallow land. As a result, food production will increase further."
The present government under the leadership of the premier has been working relentlessly with utmost importance on agriculture, he said at the event as the chief guest.
"Our researchers and scientists have already developed many enhanced varieties and technologies of crops."
These varieties need to be produced quickly and distributed among the farmers, the minister said.
