Hasan thrives with four-fer
"It was bowlers' day today," is how Bangladesh T20 skipper Mahmudullah Riyad explained the first of the two intra-squad practice games at the BKSP ground today. And it was young pacer Hasan Mahmud who impressed the most in today's practice match.
Split into two teams -- Mahmudullah XI and Tamim XI -- the Tigers played a 40-overs-a-side practice game as part of the preparation for the upcoming three-match ODI and two-match Test series against West Indies later this month.
Mahmudullah XI sent Tamim XI to bat after winning the toss on a hazy winter morning. Tamim XI suffered an early jolt in the form of the wicket of in-form batsman Liton Das. Liton was removed by pacer Al-Amin Hossain in the fifth over after having scored just two off 10 deliveries.
Tamim XI's trouble compounded when Hasan removed skipper Tamim Iqbal (28 off 43) and Najmul Hossain Shanto (27 off 35) in the 13th and 17th over respectively. After that, Soumya Sarkar played a steady 46-ball 24-run knock but it was Afif Hossain's quick-fire 32-ball 35, including three sixes and a four, that helped Tamim XI muster 161 in 37.2 overs before Hasan came into action at the latter stage of the game and wrapped it up with two more wickets. Hasan finished with figures of four for 21 in his six overs that included a maiden.
Mahmudullah also left his mark on the practice game as it was his unbeaten 64-ball 51 and a 52-ball 43 from Mohammad Naim Sheikh's bat that helped Mahmudullah XI chase down the mediocre target in 36.5 overs and win by five wickets.
