Arifin Shuvoo’s incredible ‘Transformation’

At a time when the Bangladeshi film industry moves at a snail's pace to try and catch up to international standards, Arifin Shuvoo took a huge stride in proving that anything is possible with the right amount of dedication.

The Dhaka Attack star's self-directed documentary Transformation, which highlights his journey of shedding weight from 94 kgs to six-packs, is the first of its kind in the country from a seasoned actor for a particular film. "The character I will play in Mission Extreme warrants that kind of physique," says the actor in the documentary. "However, it seemed next to impossible to make that kind of transformation within 9 months." Despite the circumstances, Shuvoo took up the challenge to bring a colossal change in his diet and training regimen.

"At times, I was in so much pain that I wanted to give up, but I would credit my trainer, who tricked me into completing my given workout," says Shuvoo. When it finally seemed like everything was on the right track, disaster struck in the form of repetitive tissue damage on his feet, due to continuously lifting heavy weights. "It was an intolerable level of pain, and that is when I broke down mentally." Doctors had advised him not to participate in any heavy exercise or shooting for nine months.

Even though it seemed like the end of the line, Arifin Shuvoo decided to fight fate itself. "I am someone who will reach his goal or die trying," he said. Shuvoo continued with the upper body workouts, until he finally got the desired results after 9 months of sweat, discipline and excruciating pain.

"What I want everyone to know is that if we try, anything is possible. If actors from our neighbouring countries can do it, we can do it too," concluded a proud Arifin Shuvoo in the documentary. The video is available on the actor's YouTube channel.
