3 killed in Dhaka, Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfights’

Rohingya robber leader Nur Mohammad killed in gunfight

Three alleged criminals were killed in separate incidents of “gunfight” with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in Dhaka and Cox’s Bazar today.

The deceased have been identified as Sumon, Abdur Rahman and Omar Faruk, reports Bangla daily Prothom Alo quoting Rab sources.

Alleged arms dealer, Sumon, was killed in a “gunfight” with a team of Rab-2 in Dhaka’s Hazaribagh area, the Bangla daily reports quoting Rab’s media wing.

Further information regarding the incident could not be known yet.

On the other hand, alleged drug peddlers--Abdur Rahman and Omar Faruk -- were killed in a reported “gunfight” with a team of Rab-2 in Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf upazila.

Acting on a tip-off regarding the arrival of a big shipment of drugs, the team of Rab-2 went to Teknaf from Dhaka, the daily reports quoting Rab-2 Superintendent of Police Muhammad Mohiuddin Faruqi.

The law enforcers set up a temporary check-post on Marine drive at Baharchhara union in order to catch the drugs’ shipment.

When the vehicle of the alleged drug peddlers reached the check-post, law enforcers signaled it to stop. But instead of stopping the vehicle, the “criminals” opened fire at them forcing Rab members to fire back triggering a “gunfight”, the SP added.

The two “drug peddlers” and three members of Rab sustained bullet injuries during the “gunfight”, the Rab official said.

Abdur Rahman and Omar Faruk were rushed to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

The law enforcers were released after they received primary treatment.
