Bangladesh International Theatre Festival sets off tomorrow
The Ministry of Cultural Affairs in collaboration with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), International Theatre Institute (Bangladesh Centre) and Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation is all set to organise the weeklong (June 20-26) festival titled Bangladesh International Theatre Festival 2019 at BSA. Theatre troupes from different countries including France, Russia, China, Vietnam, India, Nepal and Bangladesh will stage their productions at the festival.
A press conference was held yesterday at the seminar room of the National Theatre Hall, BSA where the State Minister of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs K M Khalid, MP briefed the journalists. Chairman of Bangladesh Group Theatre Federation (BGTF), Liaquat Ali Lucky, also Director General of BSA; renowned thespian Ramendu Majumdar, also President of International Theatre Institute (ITI, worldwide); Nasiruddin Yousuff, also President of ITI (Bangladesh); festival director Debaprasad Debnath; Professor Abdus Selim and secretary general of BGTF Kamal Bayezid among others attended the press conference. Dr Md Abu Hena Mostofa Kamal, NDC, Acting Secretary to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, presided over the press meet.
This first of a kind festival will raise its curtains at the main auditorium of National Theatre Hall, BSA at 6:30 pm tomorrow. Following the opening ceremony, artistes of Dhriti Nartanalaya (Bangladesh) will stage the dance drama Mayar Khela at 7:30 pm on the day.
A French production of Oh My Sweet Land and an Indian production of Macbeth will be staged on June 21. Bangladeshi, Chinese, Nepalese, Vietnamese and Russian productions --Zaitun Bibir Pala, F CK, Jhialincha (Dragonfly), Kim Tu (adaped from The Wilderness) and a light puppet show will be staged on the following days of the festival.
