Destiny-2000 director gets 3 years' jail

A Dhaka court yesterday sentenced Destiny-2000 Ltd Director Mejbah Uddin Swapan to three years' rigorous imprisonment in a case filed against him for not submitting his wealth statement within the stipulated time.

The court also fined him Tk 20,000, in default of which he will have to spend six months more in jail.

Judge Md Shahidul Islam of the Special Judge Court-7 of Dhaka handed the sentence in absence of the convict.

On June 28 of 2016, ACC Assistant Director Mozammel Hossain filed the case against Swapan with Ramna Police Station as the Destiny director failed to submit his wealth statement within the stipulated time.

The ACC pressed charges against Swapan on March 16 last year and the court framed charges against the director on August 27 of 2017.
