2 more held in Comilla

Police yesterday arrested two brothers from Daudkandi in Comilla, in a case over the killing of Abu Zafar Anik in Chittagong city's Battery Goli area on June 17.
They two were arrested in Chakroshala area with the help of Comilla police, said Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Mahabubur Rahman during a press briefing at police lines in Chittagong.
The arrestees are Jonayed Ahmed Imon, 19, and Jobayed Ahmed Shovon, 22, both sons of Sagir Ahmed.
With the arrests made in Comilla, the total number of arrestees in the case now stands at four.
On June 22, based on information from Bangladesh police, India's Special Task Force (STF) arrested two others -- prime accused Mohiuddin Tushar, 30, and Ekhlasur Rahman, 22 -- in Free School Street area of Kolkata. They were handed over to Bangladesh police on Monday.
Tushar and Ekhlas were presented at yesterday's press briefing.
CMP Commissioner Mahabubur said both Tushar and Ekhlas had Indian and Malaysian visas on their passports and soon after the killing, they entered India through Benapole border.
CMP's Additional Deputy Commissioner (South) Shah Md Abdur Rauf said, “The duo crossed the border on June 18 using their visas.”
In a raid at Tushar's house, police found the 7.65mm pistol that Tushar used to fire blank shots during the killing, he said, adding that Shovon, the arrestee from Comilla, stabbed Anik.
CMP Commissioner Mahabubur said, “We informed STF of Kolkata police about the criminals by sending a letter from the Police Headquarters… After identifying them, Kolkata police kept them under surveillance and later arrested the duo.”
Anik, 26, was killed in front of his father after his younger brother Ronik had an altercation with a group of youth over honking his motorbike in the evening. Later that night, Mohiuddin came back to Anik's house with a gang of youths and stabbed him dead.
Police and local sources said Anik as well as his killers were involved with politics of Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Anik's father filed a case with Chawakbazar Police Station accusing 12 identified and 15 unidentified individuals.
Nirmalendu Bikash Chawakrabarty, ADC (prosecution) of CMP, said Mohiuddin Tushar and Imon were produced before the Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Safi Uddin with a 10-day remand prayer.
The court set Wednesday for hearing the remand prayer. and in the meantime sent the two to jail, he added.
