Govt asked not to enact laws against right to info
Transparency International Bangladesh has urged the government not to enact laws conflicting with the Right to Information Act, 2009.
On the International Right to Know Day yesterday, TIB issued a press release, in which its Executive Director Iftekharuzzaman said the government had recently enacted some laws and made policies that went against the RTI Act.
The National Broadcast Policy, Section-57 of the Information and Communication Technology Act and the draft of the cyber crime act have elements responsible for shrinking freedom of speech, he said, which put the proper implementation of the RTI Act at risk.
Iftekharuzzaman urged the government to step out of self-contradictory stance and be respectful to its commitment to ensure right to information for all.
He also called on government officials to publish policies regarding the revelation of information in line with the RTI Act.
