Hefajat slams for reinstalling Lady Justice’s sculpture
Hefajat-e Islam ameer Shah Amhed Shafi today sharply criticised the government for reinstalling the sculpture of Lady Justice near the Supreme Court annex building.
“Reinstalling the Greek statue is nothing but a mockery with the people’s religious sentiment,” he said in a statement hours after reinstallation of the statue in front of the annex building on the SC premises.
Terming the incident “very disappointing,” the Hefajat chief said, “We are stunned and speechless over the issue.”
He called upon the authority concerned to remove the sculpture from the country forever.
Different Islamist organisations including Khelafat Andolon, Bangladesh Jomiatul Ulama, Jomiat e Olama e Islam and Islamic scholars also came down heavily for reinstalling the statue of Lady Justice.
The sculpture of Lady Justice was taken down in the late hours of Thursday night, a month after Islamist group Hefazat demanded its removal from the Supreme Court premises.
Hours after the removal of the statue, police in the capital yesterday swung into action against demonstrators protesting the removal, which they see as "surrender to radical Islamists".
