Female ‘JMB activist’ held in B’baria
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) today claimed to have detained a female activist of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in Brahmanbaria.
The detainee, Tahura Islam Chowdhury Prokash Ifta, 18, was held in Kandipara area of Brahmanbaria city around 5:30pm, said Lt Col Shariful Islam, commander of Rab-14 in Mymensingh, at a press briefing this afternoon.
Tahura, daughter of Maolana Mainul Islam Chowdhury of Suraboi village under Shaistaganj upazila in Habiganj, was an active member of JMB’s Sarwar-Tamim group, the Rab officer said, adding that jihadi books were also recovered from her possession.
Tahura allegedly left her home on March 15 after being influenced by one Saima Khatun and one Rafikul Islam Prokash Junaed whom she got introduced to in Facebook, reports our correspondent quoting the Rab official.
With help from the duo, Tahura went to Cox’s Bazar via Comilla and got married to Junaed there on March 19. Then she went on hiding at a relative’s house in Brahmanbaria, the Rab official added.
